Home Electronics

Home electronics use up the least amount of energy in most homes, but savings can be achieved by following a very simple list of tasks.

1. Look for ENERGY STAR computers. These computers enter a low-power mode that saves energy and helps the computer last longer. Just letting the computer lapse into the screen saver does not save power. Leaving equipment on does not prolong the life of the equipment.
2. 75% of the power consumed by home electronics occurs when the appliance is off. This can be avoided by using a common power strip as a power source for the appliance and turning it off when the appliance is not in use.
3. Unplug battery chargers when they are not in use or the battery is full charged. Rechargeable batteries are the more efficient than throwaway batteries.
4. Consider a laptop computer instead of a desktop for your next computer upgrade. Laptops consume much less energy than desktops.
5. ENERGY STAR labels can be found on the following home electronics: cordless phones, televisions, VCRs and DVD players, home audio equipment and set-top boxes.

Please review what home electronics you have that really need to be turned on. If it is not in use, turn it OFF.
